Pallet racks and cantilever racks for storing MYCS furniture in Poland

MYCS logo

MYCS has equipped its new 12,748 m² logistics centre in Szczecin (Poland) with pallet racks and cantilever racks from Mecalux. The two storage solutions stand out for their flexibility, since they adjust to the products’ dimensions and volumes (furniture components such as tables, shelves or cabinets). In addition, by providing direct access to merchandise, they streamline load management and help control stock.

About MYCS

It is a furniture brand with a presence in Germany, France and Poland. Its designs are tailored to the specific needs of customers, be it in colour, size, materials, distribution, etc.

Needs and the solution

In recent years, MYCS has expanded its sales network in Europe and for this reason had to open a new 12,748 m2 warehouse in Szczecin (Poland), from where it distributes furniture to all its customers in that country (part of the furniture is also shipped abroad thanks to agreements with transport agencies).

For this new project, the company needed a storage system that could handle more than 11,000 different SKUs and numerous pallets of variable dimensions and rotations. One of its priorities, moreover, was to speed up order processing.

In view of these factors, Mecalux has equipped the warehouse with single-depth 8.5 m-high pallet racks and cantilever racks. The two solutions offer direct access to help operators prepare around 160 orders per day (each consisting of 80 lines).

Here are the specifics of these two storage systems:

Pallet racks
In its warehouse, MYCS utilises 800 x 1,200 mm pallets and, on top of them, deposits different sized and volume furniture components. The pallet racks are very versatile, because they can modify the storage locations and adapt them to the products' characteristics.

These shelves primarily house the components that comprise the shelves and cabinets for any room in the house. A further characteristic of these racks is the direct access to the products, which simplifies the storage and order preparation tasks. Picking is done directly off the pallets located on the lower levels. In the upper ones, reserve products are stored, making merchandise available at any moment to avoid service disruptions.

An underpass has been opened that crosses the rack block. It is used to facilitate the flow of operators at work and, in parallel, serves as an emergency exit. The levels above are fitted out with electro-welded mesh to prevent the accidental fall of materials.

Cantilever racking
Four 8.5 m-high blocks of racks have been installed, divided into eight levels. They consist of cantilevered columns and arms on which longer load units, such as table and cabinet components, are placed.

This system's advantage is that the racking components are easily configurable, so they can be adapted to the differing heights and types of goods.

Advantages for MYCS

  • Optimum stock management: both pallet racks and cantilever racks are suitable for storing larger products (cabinet components, racks, tables, etc.).
  • Versatile systems: both storage systems can be adjusted to the product characteristics.
  • Large storage capacity: overall, the warehouse offers a storage capacity for 4,928 pallets and very long items.
